Driver more than double legal alcohol limit sentenced to five days in P.E.I. jail

A 21-year-old P.E.I. man who was 2.5 times over the legal limit was sentenced to five days in jail for failing a breathalyzer.

Connor Ewald Moerike appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown May 17.

The court heard on March 10 at around 7 a.m., police received a report of a possible impaired driver leaving a Tim Hortons.

The vehicle was intercepted by police at Kirkwood Drive and University Ave.

Moerike displayed significant signs of impairment and provided breath samples 2.5 times the legal limit.

He had no prior criminal record.

In addition to jail time, he must pay a $1,300 fine and $390 to the victims of crime fund.

He is also prohibited from driving for one year.
