The Charlottetown Fire Department was busy over the weekend dealing with the aftermath of an intense rain and hail storm that hit the Island.

Deputy Fire Chief Tim Mayme said 11 of the 17 calls the department received during that period were storm-related.

Many of the calls had to do with branches that fell into powerlines causing sparks, as well as downed trees or parts of trees causing blocked roadways, he said.

“Between us, Maritime Electric and the public works crews, along with police, everybody was running pretty hard,” he said, adding there were no injuries reported.
