At least three people have been temporarily displaced by a fire this morning that started in an electric scooter, spread to the exterior of the home and sent smoke through a house with a basement apartment near downtown Charlottetown.
Disaster volunteers with the Canadian Red Cross have assisted a woman from the basement unit with emergency lodging, food, clothing and temporary taxi support due to the damaged scooter. At least two people lived in the main portion of the house. They were not present when the Red Cross team arrived but will be offered similar help if required.
The fire was reported around 8 a.m. today at 11 Pond St.
Red Cross volunteers also provided emergency lodging, food, clothing purchases and other basics for a woman displaced when a fire late Thursday extensively damaged her older wood-frame house a few kilometres west of New Glasgow, P.E.I.  She wasn't home at the time so there were no injuries from the fire, reported on Thursday at 21 Myers Rd. around 11 p.m.
