CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - A Charlottetown man is using a gravelly voice and eccentric character he created to launch a new program on the American Podcast Network.

Jarrod Gallant was just playing around one day when he came up with the voice and character, who he calls Griggy.

Griggy is now turning heads with officials at Sirius XM Radio. Gallant will debut a show called @GonzoPodcasts on June 24 at 11:45 p.m. AT. He says it’s the #1BadDudeShow.

When Gallant clears his throat and turns into Griggy, he sounds eerily similar to Wolfman Jack, a legendary U.S. disc jockey in the 1970s, whose raspy voice not only made him a household name on U.S. radio but resulted in numerous television appearances and a music career.

Griggy said a lot has changed since Wolfman Jack’s days. Now, the internet makes all things possible.

“Accessibility. Anybody and their dog can go on the internet and make themselves a star. But, you see, it's not just the kind of mutt that you are that makes you a star, it’s the talent within, it’s inert. You know what I’m saying, my brutha?’’

Gallant added, “I started going on social media and going on different websites, interviewing people, and then it kind of took off. I was suddenly interviewing people (who had appeared on) the Howard Stern show and Opie and Anthony (from Sirius XM). Now, I’ve got this bizarre Sunday night broad stream show on an American Podcast Network.’’

It was an opportunity that pretty much fell into Gallant’s lap. The “gonzo’’ guys he’s interviewed from the Howard Stern show also sat up and took notice of Gallant’s interviews as the character Griggy.

“I got this little show called the Gonzo Podcast Network that’s going to be the number one bad dude show and it’s going to be hot for trots, you know what I mean,’’ Gallant said, giving The Guardian a sample of what Griggy sounds like and how he talks. “We got action; we got suspense; we got drama; we got comedy; we got romance, my mutha’s mutha; we got it all. You never know what’s going to happen when you tune in. It’s going to be wild.’’

To find the show, simply type in “Gonzo Podcasts’’ on the internet. It will be live streamed on Sunday nights. It’s also available on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.

Gallant said he’ll talk to celebrities, songwriters, book authors and just about anyone on his show.

“A dream doesn’t begin to describe it,’’ he said, returning to his normal voice. “It’s a fantasy come to life.’’

Gallant said officials with Sirius XM Radio told him they will be monitoring his progress.

“(They’ve said) ‘hey, you’ve got a little bit of something and it would be nice to see it nurtured and kind of grow’. It’s humbling. It’s cool to be able to do this.’’
