Woman claiming to have explosive in purse arrested BY JIM BROWN Transcontinental Media
Summerside police were called to Slemon Park early this afternoon to deal with a potentially explosive situation.
A woman was in the Slemon Park Hotel and Conference Centre's restaurant when she got up from her table and asked to speak to one of a group of RCMP officers having lunch in the restaurant, said general manager Kevin Mouflier.
The officers were visiting Slemon Park for a training course.
Mouflier said the lady asked a female officer if she could speak to her in the lobby.
“She explained to her she had an explosive device in her purse,” Mouflier said.
"It was a bizarre situation," added Bill Thompson, president of Slemon Park Corporation, who was at the scene shortly after 1 p.m.
"It's a first for us."
Several police cars and vans swooped in within minutes to arrest the woman and to learn she didn't have an explosive device in her purse after all.
A RCMP bomb technician, having lunch at the building, was also on hand.
“That’s why (the search) went faster,” Mouflier.
Customers and staff were taken out of the building at 1:10 p.m. and were given the all-clear about 12 minutes later, said Mouflier.
“Everything was done very quickly and professionally and business went back to normal immediately afterwards,” said Mouflier.
Thompson said the situation was quickly brought under control and praised the actions of police and staff.

ashley from PEI writes: I'm just wondering what the hell was going through this lady's head... obviously if she didn't have explosives in her purse they'd figure that one out. Kinda dumb... not saying I'd ever ever do it.. or advise anyone else to do it but if I was claiming to have explosives in my purse I'd make sure there actually was some there... jeesh.
