Ogilvie runs in Malpeque for Conservative Party EDITORIAL STAFF The Guardian
Dr. Tim Ogilvie has accepted the nomination to serve as the Conservative Party of Canada’s candidate in the next federal election, the Malpeque Conservative Association announced Monday.
“We are thrilled to have a candidate of Dr. Ogilvie’s stature stand for election and I know that his experience and grasp of the challenges and opportunities facing the residents of Malpeque makes him the voice we need in Ottawa,” said Malpeque Conservative Association vice-president Jamie Ballem.
Ballem says the party’s constitution provides a set period of time for candidates to come forward once the electoral district is released. He said after that time period had elapsed, Ogilvie was the only candidate who was willing to commit the time to run as a candidate.
“The party undertook a search process this fall to identify potential candidates able to commit themselves to a candidacy,” said Ballem. “We are fortunate indeed that Dr. Ogilvie is prepared to invest the time and energy needed for a successful campaign.”
Liberal Wayne Easter is the riding’s sitting member of Parliament. The Liberals have held the seat since 1988.
Ogilvie is immediate past dean of the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at UPEI. He served the university as acting dean from 1998-99 and as chair of the department of health management from 1990. During this time, he was also co-director of AVC’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
Ogilvie joined AVC as a founding faculty member in 1985 after serving as director of the animal industry services branch of the P.E.I. Department of Agriculture and Forestry. He received his doctor of veterinary medicine and master of science degrees from the University of Guelph and after graduation was employed in private practice in Kensington.
Ogilvie has served his community on Kensington Minor Hockey Council for several years and has been warden for St. Thomas’ Anglican Church and the Parish of New London. Tim and his wife, Lola, reside in Spring Brook. Lola is active in community outreach programs. They have two sons, Thomas and Adam, who are enrolled in the veterinary medicine program at AVC.

seems like this to me from ch'town, pE Island writes: Seems like this will be the end of Easter. The federal libs. learned nothing from the disgraceful campaign to grab a non elected Prime Ministers Office and leadership of the party. Now the libs. - I have a red card in my pocket book- have this Icky fellow. He was defeated in a fair leadership campaign. But now - Icky - has gained control of the libs. without a leadership convention. Totally non democratic. This only points out to Canadians how the libs. are filled with these arrogant, elitist types that don't give a hoot for democracy or the common good. The thing that drives these folks is the lust for power. They are a national party in decline. Except fro a narrow band of land along the atlantic coast - including NFLD, and PEI... the federal Libs have retreated into the large Canadian cities - ie Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver. Eventually even here on the Island we'll accept the fact that Canada has two national political institutions - NDP and Tories!

reply from pe writes: I dont' care about this race, I don't even live in the riding, but I find it funny how the first comment is complaining about how the Liberal leader was chosen without a nomination, and how undemocratic that is.
Do they not recognize the irony that this vet was chosen without a nomination, just appointed like Ignatiaf was?

JD from PE writes: Finally a decent MP for Malpeque.
Bye bye Wayne Easter and your daily press releases.
If nothing else lets hope this guy understands that knowing when to speak is also just as important as speaking.
Wayne maybe you go back to farming..we all know how good you were at that.

JD from PE writes: reply from pe...do you know the difference between Appointed & Acclaimed?
Ogilvie was ACCLAIMED IGGY was APPOINTED.
Now seeing you don;t know the difference between the two let try to explain it for you.
ACCLAIMED is when NO one else decides to run against you. You open the nomination process and anyone is free to run. If there is more than one person than they have contest and everyone gets to go and vote and make their choice.
This is very democratic way of doing things. The person who garners the most votes gets to run.
Now if there is ONLY one person having the voting process would be rather stupid.
What the Liberals done with IGGY was they appointed him. They basically told everyone else that there would be no race and that anyone else who wanted to run could go pound sand. That they were appointing IGGY and that was it.
Hardly a democratic process the Liberals used. This from a party who wants to be elected to run a country.
At least the Tories Malpeque understand the democratic process.

reply from pe from fdad writes: To JD, I do know the difference and the two cases are the same both were acclaimed. Both put there names up and in the case of the liberals two people running backed out, which left Ignatieff as the sole candidate. Same as Ogilive.
Sorry to tell you but that is the same situation.
The first comment talks about a non democratic arogant elitist proffessor, who got the nod without a convention. Looks to me to be the exact same thing, which I found funny. Again I don't really care, I just thought it was kinda ironic.
