Council of churches hosts special service 
Veterans from the area honoured at Crapaud war monument on Sunday, Nov. 8

The service of worship and remembrance, conducted by the South Shore Council of Churches, was held at the Crapaud war monument on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 2 p.m.
The leader was Joel Wydysh, pastor of the Island Wesleyan Church in Hampton.
The service began with the singing of the hymn O God our Help in Ages Past, followed by the singing of O Canada.
The reading of the veterans’ names was conducted by Helen Carr. Those killed in action from the area were Frederick Boardman, Percy Farrar, Murchison Gordon, Heath Ward MacQuarrie, Ernest Norton, Harry W. Stewart, Archie Beaton, Vincent Carr, Elmer Mabey, Heath E. Beaton, Arthur Collett, Everett Samuel Francis, John MacPhail, Patrick McManus, Bertram Penpraise and John Lyman Wood.
The Last Post and Reveille were played by Dennis Wells.
The Scripture lesson was read by Connie McCardle.
The presentation of wreaths was conducted by Eric Wilson. Among those laying wreaths were MP Wayne Easter, MLA Valerie Docherty, Elwin Sherren representing the New Haven Legion, a number of local businesses, the Masonic Lodge number 8, local churches and residents.
Wydysh delivered the message, followed by a prayer and the closing hymn, Faith of our Fathers. The service was very well attended.
Upcoming events in the area include the family skate at the South Shore Actiplex every Sunday, 1:30-3 p.m. Admission is adults, $3, under 12, $2, preschoolers, free.
Memberships at the fitness centre at the South Shore Actiplex ship for six months is available for age 55 and up as well as for adults. All classes and the T-zone are included in the memberships, as well as lost of equipment.
There are other usage options, including a drop-in fee. On toonie Tuesday, those aged 55 and up, walk the track for a toonie. Gift certificates are also available for Christmas.

The South Shore Actiplex board of directors would like to say thank you to the South Shore Minor Hockey parents for donating a large sum of money to the new time clock. It was much appreciated.
The Ten Thousand Villages sale at Englewood school in Crapaud began last evening and continues today, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
The North Tryon Soup’er Saturday luncheon, craft and bake table will be held today, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., in the South Shore United Church vestry. Admission is adults, $7, which includes soup, biscuit, dessert and tea.
Plan to attend a sacred music concert of Christmas and gospel selections at the Hunter River Lions Hall on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2 p.m. Performers include the Central Queens Singers and musicians Janet and Helena Stead, Nancy Rackham, Larry and Beth Mattinson, Joy and Kelsey MacIntyre, Roberta Parkman, Mary Cousins, Linda Weeks, Betty Gamester, Phyllis Snowie, Gail MacDonald and Brad Trivers. Admission is $10 with proceeds to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The South Shore Chamber of Commerce announces an open house for members at South Shore Computing, 20454 Trans-Canada Highway, Crapaud, on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 6:15-7:15 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come and visit with Debbie and Robert Todd and hear their success story.
The November meeting of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce will be held that same evening at the Crapaud Community Hall at 7:30 p.m. The guest speakers will be from Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Their Majesties. The Royal Family, invite you to Ole King Cole’s Birthday Banquet at the South Shore United Church on Friday, Nov. 27, and Saturday, Nov. 28. Tickets are available at the South Shore United Church office at 658-2863. Admission is adults, $25, children 12 and under, $15. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show begins at 6:30 p.m.
The Caledonian Club of P.E.I. has announced its annual St Andrew’s Day on Friday, Nov. 27, at Holy Redeemer Hall, Pond Street, Charlottetown. A reception is at 6:30 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m.
This enjoyable evening with truly Scottish flavour will include the performing of the address to the Haggis, the skirl of the bagpipes and the wit of master of ceremonies chief Cecil MacPhail.
The year’s guest speaker is his Summerside mayor Bazil Stewart. The Caledonian Awards will also be presented.

The monthly ceilidh /concert in Bonshaw is set for 7-9 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 29. Special guests are Herbie MacDonald, Fraser Squires, Tim Hamming and Ed Estabrooks and singer, fiddler and step dancer Paige LeClair.
There will also be open stage time, 50/50 draw lunch and more. Admission is by donation with proceeds this month going to the Canadian Diabetes Association of P.E.I.
The evening’s program is at the Bonshaw Community Centre, 15 Green Rd. in Bonshaw, next to the Bonshaw Hall, which is undergoing renovations.
It will begin at 6 p.m. with a special presentation by the P.E.I. representative of the Canadian Diabetes Association. For more information, contact 675-4093 or Sheldon MacNevin at 675-2885.
There will fundraising bingo at the Crapaud Curling Club on Sunday, Nov. 29, 7-9 p.m., in aid of two East Wiltshire school students from the area for their school trip.
Prizes include for a full page a weekend at the Delta Prince Edward hotel in Charlottetown.
