Commandos strike quickly to beat Capitals

DIEPPE, N.B. — Two goals just over two minutes apart late in the second period proved to be the difference in the Dieppe Commandos’ 4-2 victory over the Summerside Western Capitals in Maritime Junior A?Hockey League action Wednesday afternoon.
The Capitals led 2-1 after the opening period and the score remained that way until 16:32 of the middle frame. That’s when Dillen Theriault tied the game and Zack Cahill put the Commandos in front for good at 18:35.
Chuckie Schembri then closed out the game’s scoring with an empty-net goal with nine seconds to go in regulation time.
Dennis Lagace opened the scoring at 4:47 of the first period for the Commandos (6-11-0-1).
Trevor Carmichael, who also added an assist, tied the game at 10:51, and Nick Reilly scored at 16:16 to send the Caps into the first intermission up 2-1 at 16:16.
Andrew Taylor (2), Theriault, Matt LeBlanc, Morgan Nicolas and Lyndon Joseph added assists for Dieppe. Other helpers for the Capitals were credited to Chad Earle, Richard Greer and Nathan DesRoches.
Overall, the Capitals outshot the Commandos 29-27. Winning goaltender was Mario Babineau and Jared Kelly took the loss.
Referee James Trenholm called four minors against each team and the teams played a penalty-free third period.
The Capitals will play their first home game since Oct. 25 on Friday night against the Amherst Ramblers (9-8-0-1). Game time is 7 p.m.
The Caps will also entertain the Campbellton Tigers on Sunday at 2 p.m. Fans are asked to note the start time for the game.
