West Royalty school revamps playground
The Guardian
To the enthusiastic applause of students, parents and staff the new Adapted Playground Climber at West Royalty Elementary has been officially opened.
Bush Dumville, MLA for West Royalty-Springvale, represented the province at the ceremony. The local Home and School Association received $37,500 in support of this project through the province’s Island Community Fund.
The realization of this project culminated three years of planning and fundraising by the students and parents. The large playground structure features wheelchair accessibility, a rubber synthetic undersurface and adapted activities at ground level that allow children of all abilities the opportunity to participate and enjoy.
The positioning of the climber on the school playground enhances the opportunities for students to play, get fit and have fun.
Dumville says the playground promotes sport, recreation, community spirit and gives parents the added pleasure of knowing that their children can play on this equipment regardless of their abilities.
Principal Ken Gaudet applauded the local Home and School Association for its ongoing dedication to improving the quality of the school experience for the students.
Home and School president Trudy Loveless thanked the provincial government and City of Charlottetown for their participation in the project. The city’s recreation department was singled out for their commitment in putting this structure together in such a timely manner.
