Gilks officially files for recount in Alberton

ALBERTON – Natasha Gilks has filed an official request for a recount of mayoralty ballots from Monday’s municipal election in Alberton.
Election-night vote-counting gave Gilks 220 votes compared to 222 for Michael Murphy.
Gilks said she would be requesting a recount and town administrator Susan Wallace-Flynn confirmed the request in writing, along with the mandatory $25 fee, was submitted.
The administrator is now waiting for a provincial court judge to set a date for counting ballots.
Defeated candidates have until Monday, Nov. 9, to request a recount.
All municipal governments elected on Nov. 2 are scheduled to take office Nov. 16.
