P.E.I. gets rain, much of N.S. expecting heavy snow
BY STAFF The Guardian
Prince Edward Island is receiving a mix of rain, wet snow and heavy winds.
A developing low-pressure centre that tracked south of Nova Scotia today is being blamed for the very strong Northerly winds that will continue to increase throughout the day today.
Most precipitation is expected to fall as rain.
But that rain will become mixed with snow or flurries later today before ending.
Environment Canada is also warning of higher than normal water levels expected on north and east facing coastlines late today accompanied by high surf.
A snowfall warning remains in place in much of northern Nova Scotia including the Cobequid Pass.
Total snowfall amounts up to 20 centimetres over higher terrain in mainland Nova Scotia and up to 25 cm over the Cape Breton Highlands are expected.
The snowfall warning has been lifted for much of Metro Halifax.
The Confederation Bridge is still warning of possible travel restrictions but so far no restrictions are in place.
The forecast is calling for rain at times mixed with snow. Rainfall amount 5 to 10 mm. Wind north 50 km/h gusting to 80. High plus 5.
Tonight rain at times mixed with snow changing to a few flurries or rain showers this evening.
Rainfall amount 5 mm. Wind north 40 km/h gusting to 60. Low plus 1.
