Relocation of the government department to Summerside underway Breaking News print this article
The Guardian

A group of 25 employees of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development began working in Summerside this week as part of the permanent relocation of the department to Summerside.
“We have 25 employees now settling into their new office space in the historic Holman’s building on Water Street,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Gerard Greenan.
“Our experience in this first phase of the move will help us to plan for the relocation of 85 more staff in July 2010.”
The relocation of the department is part of the provincial government’s One Island Community initiative which aims to make government services and permanent professional jobs available throughout the Island.
Greenan says most of the employees who are relocating now live in the Prince County area. Many are curriculum or program specialists or employees who provide services in the Prince County area.
The new office s pace also includes work stations for employees who will be working at the Summerside site a few days a week.

Greenan, is not going to be Minister for ever.
Infact, I wonder how he got the job anyways.
I agree this Governament, hasn't got a clue.

Shawn Worth from Burnaby, B.C writes: More government jobs in the Summerside area is a good thing. There will be spinoff's to the Summerside area, like more government people out in the Summerside area and people buying gas. Maybe if the government jobs stay in Summerside, some of the workers will move to Summerside. Maybe, just maybe someone or some people from Summerside might get one or some of the government jobs.

Dream on from PEI writes: Don't hold your breath.... they won't be relocating to Summerside (to live) - any more than the BellAliant employees won't move to Charlottetown to live.
Maybe Mayor Basil will quit his wining - people have to travel to their jobs..... not a new concept and I don't hear these gov employees nor the mayor of Charlottetown complaining.

George Campbell from PE writes: They did this - the move to Summerside - because it's a good idea. The whole province of PEI would fit into many of the larger Canadian cities, so the distances are nothing. Makes sense to have ministries distributed across PEI.

Gov Employee from pe writes: If you are a government employee, and the government moves your offices and forces you to drive an extra distance to your work site, they must pay for a specified period of time to give the employee to move or make travel arrangements.
