The City of Charlottetown announced Monday that Randy MacDonald has been appointed the new fire chief of the Charlottetown Fire Department.
MacDonald brings with him 28 years of fire service experience in fire inspection, investigation, prevention, and education. He has served numerous positions within the former Parkdale and Charlottetown Fire Departments, most recently as both fire inspector (’95-’07) and deputy chief (’07-present) of the CFD.
Throughout his career in fire services, he has been instrumental in the introduction of numerous initiatives in the Charlottetown Fire Department, including the uniting of CFD Station #1 and Station #2 to work as a cohesive and highly functional unit.
Additionally, his research and development of the Incident Command and Personal Accountabilities System has helped to improve the safe and effective operation of the department.
“As mayor of Charlottetown, and on behalf of my colleagues on city council and the city administration, I extend congratulatory wishes to Randy MacDonald on his new position as fire chief,” said Mayor Clifford Lee.
“Over the past 28 years, Randy has demonstrated through his dedication and initiative his ability to provide the citizens of Charlottetown with top quality fire protection and emergency services. Randy brings a wealth of experience as a fire professional, and the City of Charlottetown is most fortunate to have Randy as a member of our management team.”
“I have had the pleasure to work closely with Randy as the deputy chief for the past two years and I look forward to our association in his new position,” said Coun. Melissa Hilton, chair of fire services. “I am confident that the residents of Charlottetown will be well served by Randy.”
MacDonald will replace retiring fire Chief Bill Hogan effective Sept. 18.

B G from Charlottetown, PE writes: After talking to several veteran firefighters in the city, there seems to be
a morale problem. Some had hoped to get an external applicant to fill the job and bring in fresh ideas.
Hopefully Randy will fill that concern and endeavour to maintain a balance.
Good Luck Randy!
