Boy in hospital after running red light on bicycle
The Guardian
A 16-year-old boy who ran a red light on his bicycle Monday in Miscouche is in hospital following a collision with a pickup truck.
East Prince RCMP issued a press release Tuesday saying the collision occurred at 9:44 p.m. at the intersection of Main Street and Lady Slipper Drive in Miscouche.
“The police investigation revealed the youth was attempting to cross the intersection against a red light and drove into the path of a Ford F-150 pickup truck,” said the press release. “The youth was not wearing a safety helmet and the bicycle he was operating was not equipped with reflectors.”
The release said that a member of the Miscouche fire department was in the area at the time of the accident and was able to give immediate first aid.
The youth was taken to Prince County Hospital in Summerside with non-life-threatening injuries. He remains in hospital.
The 62-year-old male driver of the truck was from Lennox Island and was not injured. No charges are pending, say the RCMP.

Scott from PEI writes: I think the 16yr old boy should be charged. Running a red light, No Helmet, no safety reflectors or lights. One of those should be worthy a fine, if not all of them.

got your facts mixed up from pei writes: I think maybe the facts are displayed in a bias light - yes by all means plug the fact that he should have been wearing a helmet but get the rest of the facts straight . My daughter and husband were witnesses to this horrible accident (yes, imagine something horrible happening that was just a freak accident and not blaming anyone.) I think you are all missing the point people - whether or not he had a helmet on would not have stopped the truck from hitting him. From what I understand the boy was already across the intersection when the truck clipped the boys back wheel. Also the media doesn't indicate he was in a well lit intersection, at a cross-walk, with a bright yellow shirt on. My daughter was very distressed about the media reports considering this is not what she reported to the police in her statement.
