Murphy wins in Alberton-Roseville Former Alberton mayor wants to make the step into Province House BY WAYNE THIBODEAU The Guardian
ALBERTON – Former Alberton Mayor Pat Murphy wants to take his political career to the P.E.I. legislature.
Liberals elected Murphy Tuesday as their candidate in District 26, Alberton-Roseville.
He defeated Kelly Dawn Oliver, who works as a cost accountant with Cavendish Farms, in front of a packed house at Alberton elementary.
Murphy served as mayor of Alberton until last December. He also owns a gas station and convenience store in the heart of Alberton.
He’s been a vocal opponent of plans by Premier Pat Binns to close hospitals in Alberton and O’Leary and centralize hospital services in Bloomfield.
Liberals will continue their trek through Prince County Wednesday electing a candidate in Summerside-Wilmot Wednesday night.
