Trans-Canada in Cornwall reopens early today EDITORIAL STAFF The Guardian
CORNWALL — The Trans-Canada Highway in Cornwall will be reopened to traffic early today.
Motorists have had to detour around a major construction project after the road washed out during heavy rains associated with tropical storm Hanna Sept. 7. The reconstruction involved the replacement of a huge culvert below the highway.
Andrew Sprague, spokesman for the Department of Transportation and Public Works, said Tuesday night the last paving had been completed and the road was expected to reopen early today.
Sprague said the barricades will be removed but construction signs will be in place as the final work is completed.

Jamie from PEI writes: If we had a bypass this wouldn't have been a big deal at all. Same goes for the North River causeway.

Donna from pei writes: Hi there
I live on the detour route and for the pass two weeks we have been repeated yelled, curse and had litter throw on our yard. We were awoke at least twice a night with jake brakes. People seem to think that just because they were sent down our road for a detour that we were not allow to live here. Try to get out of your driveway, get your kids on the bus or sleep. The problem would have been the same if we had a by-pass we need to up grade our roads so these thing don't happen I think that is really funny that we can't not affrod to pave the roads that we have and you want to spend millions of dollars on another road.

Fed Up from Cornwall, PEI writes: . . . I too live on James/MacArthur Drive and I concur with Donna's comments: the overwhelming majority of cars going up and down our street where speeding and driving dangerously. There should have been flaggers, RCMP and highway Safety there to slow traffic down since it's obvious the majority of people driving on these streets have no disregard for residential speed limits, residents of the neighborhood nor young children and pedestrians walking on the road.
Just for the record: John, James and MacArthur were NOT official detour streets.

To fed up in cornwall from PEI writes: I agree about the speeding on James, John,etc.. but it dont matter if it was an official detour route or not, they are public streets and the public/taxpayers can use them as often as they like without being forced to go another route 10 miles out of the way.

open the Causeway from PEI writes: Glad to hear one leg of the treck from Cornwall to Charlottetown is open but hurry up with the Causeway - the road rage is building every day - and it doesn't even look like they are doing anything.
