The PEIWI board of directors is gearing up for WI Fall Workshops, a Festive Country Christmas, WI Youth Cooking Contest and branch events happening this fall.

The provincial board invites WI members and non-members to its fall workshops.  These free workshops will feature a session with John Robertson - known for his “The Butler Is In” segments regularly aired on CBC Radio - P.E.I.’s Canadian Hard of Hearing Association with Pardon Me? What Did You Say?and a fancy sandwich demonstration with Jacquie Laird.

Each session is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the Farm Centre, Charlottetown and Thursday, Oct. 19 at Roma at Three Rivers National Historic Site in Montague. People can pre-register by calling the WI office at 902-368-4860, or sending an email to wi@gov.pe.ca.

Congratulations to Pam Cook on winning the prize-winning quilt donated by Knutsford WI member Barbara Sweet.  The board of directors appreciates everyone who purchased tickets in support of the Community Hospital in O’Leary, and the Western Hospital in Alberton.

Kelvin Grove Women’s Institute annual Fashion Show and Luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 16 will present clothing Tan Jay/Alia at the New London Community Complex at 12 p.m. Tickets are $25 and available from any member or by phoning Anna Windsor at 902- 836-3136 or Wanda MacMurdo at 902 836-3852.

The Lower Montague WI is selling cookbooks with recipes from past and present members. Proceeds of their cookbook, selling for $20, will go towards their WI community Hall renovations.  To purchase a cookbook please contact Corrine Ellsworth at 902-838-4281.

Intermediate and high school students are invited to enter the PEIWI fourth annual cooking contest. Organized by PEIWI, and sponsored by department of agriculture and fisheries, this event will again feature four categories. They are appetizer, soup, main dish and sweets. Recipes must feature Island agricultural and fishery based products. Winners will receive cash prizes. Final judging will take place during February 2018. Deadline for students to enter is Dec. 15. Planning for the 2018 Handcrafts, Horticulture and Arts Show has begun.
