Save the Whales fundraising event set for Jan. 21 in P.E.I.

Save Our Seas and Shores P.E.I. (SOSS P.E.I.) is hosting a Save the Whales fundraising event on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2-4 p.m., in Room 242, MacDougall Hall, UPEI (storm date, Jan. 28).

All proceeds are to support a court action to protect the Gulf of St Lawrence from unlawful oil exploration.

Guest speakers will be marine biologist Tonya Wimmer, director and founder of the Marine Animal Response Society (MARS), and Gretchen Fitzgerald, national program director, Sierra Club Canada Foundation.

Wimmer has 20 years of experience studying and protecting marine animals, particularly by working to ensure human activities are sustainable and conducted responsibly. Fitzgerald will speak about the court case taking the N.L. offshore petroleum board (C-NLOPB) to court for contravening the Accords Act.

There will also be food and musical entertainment.
