For the 20th consecutive year, Pat Robinson of Charlottetown is making Christmas plum puddings in support of local charities.
Her Sherwood kitchen has been bubbling for the past several weeks producing scores of the traditional holiday desserts.
It has been a busy, but satisfying 20 years for Robinson. To date she has raised approximately $17,000 for the P.E.I. Humane Society, $10,000 for the P.E.I. Community Legal Information Association and $5,000 for other non-profit groups and needy individuals.
“These puddings are the perfect way to end a holiday meal and make excellent last-minute gifts to keep on hand in the freezer,” said Robinson.
The puddings are $15 each and are made from a traditional wartime Newfoundland family recipe. They are vegetarian-friendly and low in fat and sugar. The puddings come gift-wrapped with a recipe card for the sauce attached.
“Customer feedback has indicated the puddings are diabetic friendly, so instead of sauce, you can warm up a slice and serve it with a spread of butter or a dollop of yogurt or frozen yogurt,” said Robinson.
