CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Island seniors can join a “gold club” at the Bell Aliant Centre in Charlottetown, allowing them to take advantage of fitness programming and resources for free.

Seniors aged 80 and older can join the centre’s new program at no cost beginning May 1.

The Gold Club was inspired by a regular member, Irene Gallant, who received a lifetime membership to the facility when she turned 95.

Gallant remained an active aqua fitness participant and an example of how life-long physical activity can have a positive impact until she passed away at the age of 99.

The Bell Aliant Centre currently has 25 members who are 80 or older. With the Gold Club program, the goal is to reach 100 members by May 1, 2018.

The centre offers more than 16 aqua fitness classes each week. Seniors can participate in aqua fitness classes offered in the leisure pool, where the water is only three feet deep, or use a buoyancy belt and participate in the class offered in the deeper competition pool.

For more information about the Gold Club or other programs and services offered at the Bell Aliant Centre, visit www.bellaliantcentre.ca or call 902-569-4584.
