CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Pathfinders and Rangers from P.E.I. recently received their Canada Cord and Bronze or Silver Chief Commissioner’s Awards from the Girl Guides of Canada-P.E.I.

Lt.-Gov. Antoinette Perry presented the 12 girls with the awards during a ceremony at Government House.

They have finished or are working on a three-year program to help them develop skills and become responsible adults through demonstrating leadership, providing community service, planning camps/events, taking a first-aid course and bridging with other units of all ages.

The ceremony began with Girl Guides P.E.I. Area commissioner Shelley MacDonald lighting a candle to represent the Sisterhood of Guiding around the world. The recipients also lit candles, then received their certificates from Perry while their biographies were read.

The recipients were each given a bouquet of flowers while event co-chair and emcee Peggy Kilbride explained how the colours of the flowers were representative of their lives in Guiding and at home as they have matured and are ready to face new challenges.

Lunch was provided and a tour of Fanningbank, led by Perry.
