Experts from Child Safety Link (CSL), the child and youth injury prevention program of the IWK Health Centre, and the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) to offer child seat training to P.E.I. Highway Safety staff and other Islanders who support families.
To book an appointment to have car seat installation checked, the public can call Chances Family Resource Centre at 902-892-8744.
Properly installed car safety seats are a legal requirement and are considered critical to protecting children and infants in transit.
When used correctly, car seats and booster seats reduce the chance that a child will be severely injured or killed in a car crash by up to 70 per cent, said Katherine Hutka of CSL. “Child passenger safety education and awareness work best in a community where everyone comes together,” said Hutka. “I am pleased to say we have representatives from Highway Safety, First Nations Health, Island hospitals, daycares, women’s shelters, child protection services, and family resource centres all joining us this week for the safety of Island families.”
