ABRAM-VILLAGE, P.E.I. - The public is invited to attend the Benefit Family Mega-Bingo to raise money for local food banks.

The benefit will be held Oct.15 at 2 p.m. at the Evangeline School cafeteria in Abram-Village.

Participants will have a chance to win a variety of merchandise and gift cards, valued at more than $3,000.

Some of the prizes include a TV, a gym membership, binoculars, tickets to several shows, a $100 Visa card, gas cards, $100 in seafood, bed sheets and a comforter set, books, $500 of shale/gravel or ground work, event decor, gift bags and numerous gift cards.

All prizes have been donated by businesses and organizations in the Evangeline and Summerside regions.

All income and cash donations from the event will be contributed directly to the Summerside Salvation Army Food Bank and the Tyne Valley Caring Cupboard, which are both in dire need of assistance, especially as the fall and winter seasons arrive.

The event is being organized by the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce, the Evangeline-Central Credit Union, Wellington Co-op, the Wellington Rural Action Centre and RDÉE Prince Edward Island, and sponsored by the Coopérative de communication communautaire.

"These last few years, we've organized casinos and game show nights as social events for Co-op and Small Business Week. This year, the committee instead suggested an event for the whole family," says committee member Raymond J. Arsenault.

The event will consist of 15 games, each offering a prize worth a minimum of $100. Cards will be sold for $5 a packet.

Participants will be able to make cash donations in the amount of their choice for the food banks.

A canteen service and 50-50 tickets will also be at the benefit event.

"We're reminding everyone to bring their bingo dabbers," adds Arsenault.
