BioBlitz releases bombshell of data

Tree-climbing white-lipped snail. twice-stabbed stinkbug, giant cream pattern-wing sedge are three of the 276 species identified in the Trout River Natural Area BioBlitz event in June.

The Prince county nature group was one of 35 BioBlitz Canada 150 projects. Over 24 hours (18 of which were rainy), 22 volunteers collected plants, insects, snails and slugs, fish, reptiles, birds and amphibians.

The previous count was 108 species, and they added 10 new species of moths to the provincial list.
