STRATFORD, P.E.I. – Islanders can go for a run past Stratford’s coastal scenery and wooded paths this weekend while helping out the residents of a town in Africa.
The 10th annual Stratford Rotary Run for Mikinduri kicks off this coming Sunday, Sept. 10, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. at the Stratford Provincial Credit Union, 10 Kinlock Rd.
The race start is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the intersection of Aintree Drive and Kinlock Road.
The event offers two distance options.
A 15-kilometre run that includes a challenging route along the town’s major collector roads, up and down a steep hill or two, past iconic coastal scenery and along forest paths. There will also be a 5-km run with a few twists and turns.
For families, a healthy 5-km walk is on the schedule.
Registration fee for the 15-km run is $15, the 5-km run fee is $10 and families participating in the walk register for $20.
The Mikinduri Children of Hope Foundation is an Island-based international aid organization offering vitally needed services to residents of the Town of Mikinduri, Kenya.
There are prizes for the top racers, a draw for door prizes for all registrants, food and refreshments at the finish line and African crafts for sale.
