The Four Tellers, made up of from left, Dennis King David Weale, Gary Evans and Alan Buchanan, are paying tribute to their friend, Erskine Smith, with three shows this weekend at the Victoria Playhouse.

VICTORIA-BY-THE-SEA, P.E.I. - The Victoria Playhouse presents “The Four Tellers: Tribute to Erskine” Sept. 8-9 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 10 at 2 p.m.

Smith, the founding artistic director of the Victoria Playhouse, had a passion and gift for storytelling. He shared the stage with many of the Island’s favourite storytellers, including Alan Buchanan and David Weale, who performed with him on many occasions and counted him as a friend.

The Four Tellers, which is made up of David Weale, Alan Buchanan, Gary Evans and Dennis King, has been performing to sold-out crowds at the Kings Playhouse in Georgetown for three summers. Their shows recreate the Island tradition of individuals sitting around a kitchen table telling stories, with one drawing the next, like tissues out of a box. They are always entertaining alternating between poignant and hilarious.

In this special tribute show The Four Tellers will be affectionately recalling — and repeating —what they remember of Smith’s stories and supplementing them with their own.
