Islanders and visitors are invited to celebrate National Acadian Day on Aug. 15 at various locations across P.E.I.
Celebrations will take place at the Centre acadien Grand-Rustico with a tintamarre (noise-making parade) leaving at 11a.m. from the centre towards the Farmers' Bank of Rustico, where a flag-raising ceremony will be held, followed by a free barbecue and live music.
In Charlottetown, family activities will begin at 1 p.m. on Victoria Row, while similar events are planned for 6 p.m. at the Village musical acadien in Abram-Village and the Centre acadien de Prince-Ouest in Deblois. The communities of Summerside, Souris and Tignish will also host Acadian Day celebrations.
Party-goers in Rustico can board a free shuttle at 2:15 p.m. heading for the provincial celebration at Port-la-Joye-Fort Amherst.
The provincial celebration, presented by the SSTA and Canada 150, incudes a 5 p.m. tintamarre, followed by a carnaval en promenade with music, dance and circus arts.
At 8 p.m. at Port-la-Joye-Fort Amherst, Lennie Gallant will give a concert presented by le Congrès Mondial Acadien. The day’s activities will close with fireworks at 11 p.m.
