The fifth animal to be profiled in the 2017 edition of the 12 Strays of Christmas is Rapunzel. Rapunzel is a timid four-year-old female hound. She has come from humble beginnings and is learning to be comfortable in new surroundings. Rapunzel has lived with other dogs and needs special care and attention so she can truly blossom in her new loving home. Adoption Tip #5: Be patient with a shy dog, and avoid pushing the dog along too quickly. Create safe spaces in your home for escape for when she is feeling overwhelmed. It takes time, lots of positive praise, treats and guidance. She needs to learn that people can be trusted and to learn how to interact with all family members in a positive way. The 12 Strays of Christmas is a joint project between The Guardian and the P.E.I. Humane Society. For more information, contact the P.E.I. Humane Society at www.peihumanesociety.com or 902-892-1190.
