SUMMERSIDE - Summerside businesses are teaming up with the Consolidated Credit Union and the Boys and Girls Club of Summerside’s Youth Engagement Centre to groom future young entrepreneurs.
The Consolidated Credit Union Young Leaders Program is aimed helping youth aged 12 to 14 recognize the great business opportunities that Summerside has to offer.
The program, in its first year, provides the opportunity for Summerside businesses to generate revenue while helping the ‘young leaders’ build the necessary skills to be successful in the business world.
The young program participants will visit participating businesses to gain knowledge about how each operates and to build employability skills.
The program also teaches its participants “Heads Up for Respect,” which educates youth about appropriate electronic usage in the workplace.
The public is invited to come out to the program’s inaugural Youth Engagement Trade Show and Expo on Saturday, Aug. 15, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Credit Union Place.
The free family-friendly event offers the chance for visitors to hear the young leaders talk about the participating local businesses, enjoy some barbecue and take part in fun activities such as bubble soccer, laser tag, bouncy castles, obstacle courses, music, games and prizes.
Also, as part of the program, the youngsters in the program will be developing their own business plan with the knowledge and skills gained over the summer.
