The former Albany Scotiabank is getting a second life as a handpie house.
Sarah Bennetto O’Brien, owner of The Handpie Company, announced Thursday she had reached a deal that would allow her business to set up shop in the vacant building, which is located at 1788 Rt. 115, just off the Trans Canada Highway.
The building had been a Scotiabank for many years but was closed in January, 2017.
Bennetto O’Brien said Friday that she’s working with contractors now and hopes to be open for business there in May.
This new location is 2,400 square feet, which is a considerable jump from the business’s previous space in Borden-Carleton, which was about 600 square feet.
The company needs the extra space because they’re gearing up to start providing the wholesale market with their product, in addition to selling retail at the new location.
It’s an exciting time, said Bennetto O’Brien.
“It’s a time of huge change and awesomeness.”
