With work proceeding on the Confederation Court Mall, Richard Homburg says he is happy with how business is going in Charlottetown.

In an interview with The Guardian, Homburg said his company Homburg International is working on turning the building into a “lifestyle mall” that will work with other businesses like the convention centre.

“There’s a lot of positive things about downtown,” he said.

Homburg International bought the mall and several other buildings in downtown Charlottetown last year and more recently refinanced its debt on those properties with the provincial government.

Since buying the buildings, Homburg has started work to re-develop the mall to bring in businesses he thought complemented the nearby Confederation Centre of the Arts. That work will come to partial fruition this fall when a new spa opens along with a golf simulator that Homburg said will be the biggest in Atlantic Canada.

“It’s the most sophisticated indoor...virtual golf,” he said.

Homburg said there will be a lot of things happening at the mall in the next few months as he tries to bring in new and different businesses.

“We’re trying to get a nice mix of what I call specialty stores into the mall.”
