Xiang Tan wants many people from his homeland China to flock to visit Prince Edward Island.

He wants to entice them here with special tourism packages.

After working for years in China producing documentaries, Tan moved to P.E.I. early last year with his wife and the couple's twins.

In April, he opened Singsung Media Technology in Charlottetown, looking to draw Chinese tourists to the province.

His first order of business was to have a video produced that shows "just everything about P.E.I.'' as a tool to attract visitors from China.

He will be in China next month to attend the Chengdu International Travel Expo, which is billed as the first mega-scale tourism exhibition in western China.

He is attending the expo in hopes of introducing more people to P.E.I., and to "show them how beautiful it is.''

His approximately 10-minute video will get exposure at the expo as well as on a TV station in China and with a tourism agency.

"China has a large population (estimated at close to 1.4 billion) so I think that is a big potential for the tourism market,'' he said.

"I think what attracts them is that P.E.I. is such a small, beautiful place. A lot of people don't know about this place.''

He says many Chinese tourists are affluent people with large disposable incomes.

Tan was able to draw about 50 people to P.E.I. from China this year through his new company. He expects to draw more than 500 in 2016.
