MONTAGUE - A Montague pool service business is expanding thanks to the popularity of its cedar hot tub sales.
Combining a passion for Island made products and knowledge of the pool and hot tub industry has led Richards Total Pool Services to expand to include Island-made cedar hot tubs as part of its offerings.
The company launched its cedar hot tub product line in June and has already sold them across Prince Edward Island.
“We are proud to produce quality Island-made products that will contribute to the province’s economic development,” said Blaine Richards, owner and operator of Richards Total Pool Services.
Richards says the cedar hot tub is becoming more popular in Canadian households, cottages and vacation properties. Cedar is an ideal wood for manufacturing hot tubs in cold climates, he said, as it serves as a insulator and is known to be an effective insect repellent in the warmer seasons. The tubs are heated by wood and require no electricity or chemicals.
The company received a $6,000 grant from Innovation P.E.I. to help secure production space in Montague for the tubs.
