There are numerous Halloween activities Islanders can take in this season - corn mazes, haunted houses and Halloween parties to name a few.

Crossfire Adventure Paintball in Cavendish is offering Zombie Apocalypse- 'Operation Hunger'.

This two-day event pits an army of zombie soldiers against an international coalition of military special forces.

More than 50 players, including many off-Island participants, are expected on each of the two days making this a big game event.

The idea was developed as a follow-up to Crossfire's Zombie Apocalypse after-dark experience that operates in the summer. In that scenario, participants get to hunt zombies in a scary post-apocalyptic wasteland. Players have weapons but the zombies don't. This battle really ups the ante by arming the zombies as well, creating two armed teams (zombies on one side and the humans on the other) that will square off in battle for the future of humanity.

Opponents will battle through six missions over five different playing fields, including an 80-foot bridge and a secret hilltop military laboratory collecting points for the successful completion of each objective.

Crossfire engineers have developed a series of elaborate props that will be used during the games. One involves a suitcase-sized power pack which, when captured, will allow them to power a revolving light at the top of a satellite station signalling that their team controls that quadrant and earn points. Other props include elaborate nuclear devices, which must be disabled before they detonate. There is even ‘poison’ gas, in the form of green or white smoke grenades, which work into the overall storyline.

And, speaking of storylines, Crossfire’s is a doozy. The background story to the game is as follows:

The action takes place in the island of R’Bekkastan, off the coast of Croatia, in the Adriatic Sea. This island was home to a secret German research base in the Second World War, but was abandoned with the allied victory, and its purpose was never investigated with the start of the Cold War.

Recent reports by local Island residents speak of Zombie activity, prompting two independent recon missions to investigate: one by Russia, the second by the United States and her allies. Mission debrief and video has confirmed a zombie presence, and one unlike anything seen before.

Zombies have been identified operating weapons and explosives. There is a recognized command structure, and they seem to be able to follow orders. Intel shows a strong North Korean influence with N.K. scientists and a small N.K. security force commanding the Zombie force. Needless to say, these enhanced Zombies are a definite threat to the world.

U.S. and Russian recon forces have not made contact in 72 hours. ZCOM (Zombie Special Operations Command), has determined that a precision military strike needs to be made immediately to eliminate this threat. A combined ZERT operation with U.S., Canadian, British and Russian support will commence Operation: Hunger. Mission objective is to eliminate all zombie and North Korean threats, recover the missing allied recon teams, and discover what secrets are held on this island.

This game is open to everyone over the age if 16 regardless of experience and will take place on the Halloween weekend, Saturday, Oct. 28 and Sunday, Oct. 29. Registration for either day (or both) starts at 8:30 a.m. with games commencing at 10 a.m.

Paintball rental equipment (markers, air tanks, masks, vests and military uniforms, etc.) is available for players who don't have their own gear. Players can use hopper fed, magfed or pump action markers. Crossfire includes a hot dog and soft drink lunch and there will be up to six different missions per day with teams awarded points for successful completion. There will also be prize give-a-ways and awards for best costume.
