Construction is underway on a 40-unit, wheelchair-accessible seniors living centre at 62 Sandstone Rd., near Old Navy and Walmart, in Charlottetown.
It’s an apartment building that is focused on seniors but is not a community care facility. The City of Charlottetown issued a permit to the McInnis Group (1993) Inc. for the project, which has a lot of seniors’ properties, several of them in Summerside.
The McInnis Group was created in 1984 by Bill and Kathy McInnis, who came up with the Chesapeake concept in 2005 with Chesapeake Heights in Summerside for the 55-and-over crowd. Their live-in resident managers work to provide an atmosphere of friends within each complex.
With music, potlucks, birthday and anniversary parties, as well as an exercise room, puzzle area and large common area, patrons are engaged yet still maintain their independence.
The McInnises are now bringing the Chesapeake concept to Charlottetown.
The building is expected to be ready for occupancy by late fall.
