Charlotetown Area Chamber presents business awards

Kenmac Energy Inc. of Charlottetown was honoured Wednesday by the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce with its excellence in business award for 2015.

The award was presented to company president Dan MacIsaac during the 10th annual president's excellence awards dinner in Charlottetown.

An independent panel of judges chose the finalists from over 80 nominees selected by their peers. Finalists were honoured in eight business categories, including excellence in business.

Kenmac Energy is a locally owned full-service oil and propane company with offices in Charlottetown and Montague. It services all of P.E.I. as the distributor of Petro Canada Products.

The chamber describes the company as a leader in providing innovative heating solutions, timely distribution and flexible service programs to customers across the province.

MacIsaac is regarded as a trailblazer in the industry and has made significant contributions to increasing safety standards and representing the industry at community, government and regulation levels.

Other finalists in that category included Diversified Metal Engineering Ltd. and MacKinnon's Lobster Pound & Lobster on the Wharf Restaurant.

Kevin Murphy was awarded the entrepreneur of the year award.

Murphy was recognized for his leadership and innovation in his business pursuits, extraordinary energy and mentorship to aspiring entrepreneurs.

The chamber's volunteer excellence award was presented to Ron Keefe for his outstanding commitment and contribution to the chamber through the Island Advance initiative.

Keefe was chair of the 2012 Island Advance Task Force and agreed to continue with the project and assume the volunteer position of Island Advance advisory board chairman.

The excellence in export award, which recognizes a business demonstrating growth in sales of their product and/or service to markets outside of the province, was presented to Island Abbey Foods Ltd.

Home Hardware Charlottetown received the excellence in retail award for its strong commitment to outstanding service, customer loyalty, and community involvement.

Invesco Enterprise Services received the workplace excellence award for innovative human resource practices which provide employees with a positive, healthy and productive workplace.

The not-for-profit excellence award was presented to the Community Legal Information Association of P.E.I.

That award recognizes the accomplishments of organizations in the not-for-profit sector which contribute to the economic, social and/or cultural well-being of the greater Charlottetown area.

The emerging business award, given to a business that has demonstrated remarkable growth, innovation, and leadership in their industry sector, was awarded to Somru BioScience Inc.
