If you want to improve your golf game, your short game at least, Confederation Court Mall in Charlottetown has a new indoor facility that can help you do that.
All About Golf has transformed a large section of the mall’s lower level into a championship putting and chipping attraction.
Golfers can rent a putter and spend the next hour or so putting their way around the 18 holes laid out for them or stick to a five-hole putting green.
Owner Stephen Dowling said the idea for the facility has been in the back of his mind for about a year or so.
The concept fit neatly into mall owner Richard Homburg’s vision for the mall.
Dowling said Homburg wanted to put something new into the mall and he likes the idea of hosting activities.
“This is a great activity, it’s a great addition to the mall and we expect it will attract a lot of people, particularly in the winter months,” Dowling said.
The facility features a five-hole putting green which he believes golfers will really like.
“We have uphill, downhill, right to left breaks and left to right breaks so they can work on every aspect of their putting. And these greens act just like a real bent grass green.”
Dowling noted that Jack Nicklaus had designed a facility like this one for a mall in Ohio about five years ago.
The people who designed the facility in Charlottetown looked at the Ohio design and made what they believe are some improvements to that design.
Dowling said the Charlottetown course will challenge golfers.
“It’s not an easy course to come putt here so people will keep coming back to try and better their score...This course will make you a better putter.”
The facility is essentially open for use now.
The cost ranges from $17.50 per hour for adults to $8.75 per hour for youth, with special rates for juniors and seniors.
