P.E.I. businessman Kent Scales will receive the Entrepreneur of the Year Award when the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce celebrates the President’s Excellence Awards next month.
The ninth annual awards ceremony takes place Wednesday, Nov. 5 from 6:30-9:30 p.m., at the Delta Prince Edward. The chamber holds the event each year to recognize business excellence in the community.
Scales owns numerous businesses across P.E.I., including Robin’s Donuts, ServiceMaster and Advantage Communications. He also maintains investments in numerous “start-ups” and is known as a generous and supportive mentor to many aspiring entrepreneurs.
The chamber created the Entrepreneur of the Year Award this year to recognize a person who exemplifies entrepreneurial spirit. Individuals were nominated by chamber members, and the chamber’s executive committee selected the winner.
During the ceremony, the chamber will also announce winners in the other categories. The nominees are as follows:
Excellence in Business Award — K&A McEachern Holdings Ltd. (Canadian Tire), Charlottetown Airport Authority, and Coach Atlantic Group
Emerging Business Award — GetGifted Inc., Kays Wholesale Inc., and Pure Spa and Moksha Yoga Charlottetown
Workplace Excellence Award — Ocean 100 and Hot 105.5, Provincial Credit Union, and Timeless Technologies
Retail Excellence Award — Island Auto Supply, Northern Mosquito Control Inc., and Northern Watters Knitwear
Excellence in Export Award — BGHJ Architects, Coles Associates Ltd., and iWave Information Systems
