CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Charlottetown-area employers expect a positive hiring climate for the second quarter of 2017, according to the ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey.

The survey data shows 17 per cent of employers plan to hire for the April to June quarter, while three per cent anticipated cutbacks. The remaining 80 per cent planned to maintain their staffing levels.

The city’s second quarter net employment outlook of 11 per cent is a one percentage point decrease from the previous quarter, with seasonal variations removed from the data. It’s also a nine percentage point decrease from the outlook last year for the same quarter.

The group says that indicates a “hopeful” hiring pace for the coming months.
