Charlottetown has been chosen to host the 2011 East Coast Music Awards, Festival and Conference.
The city's selection as host for next year's ECMAs was announced Wednesday in Sydney, host city for the 2010 ECMAs.
"Charlottetown never disappoints as a committed supporter of this event, and is close to our hearts as the association's home base of operations," said Su Hutchinson, executive director of the East Coast Music Association.
"The city of Charlottetown, the province of Prince Edward Island, and a dedicated bid committee working closely together have more than satisfied the bid requirements to host the 2011 ECMAs. With great anticipation, we look from the beautiful island of Cape Breton in 2010 to magnificent Prince Edward Island in 2011, and to Charlottetown, known for exceptional hospitality and the ability to dazzle visitors from around the world when staging big events and offering a warm welcome."
Charlottetown will host the 2011 event March 24-27, 2011.
Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee said the city is excited and honoured to host ECMA 2011.
"The City of Charlottetown values its strong relationship with the East Coast Music Association and applauds their decision in awarding this highly sought-after event - a diverse celebration of culture and music that carries many economic and cultural impacts that will benefit our community and province," said Lee. "Our excitement and anticipation to host this event is evident as myself and Wayne Long, events development officer for the city of Charlottetown, have made the trek to Sydney, host of the 2010 event, for this announcement."
Lee expressed his appreciation for the efforts expended by Long and Campbell Webster for all of their hard work on the development and delivery of a successful bid document to secure the 2011 ECMA event for Charlottetown.
Charlottetown first hosted the ECMAs in 1996 and has hosted it twice since then, the last time in 2006.
Upwards of 2,000 music industry delegates are expected to attend the event which annually generates between $4 million and $7 million in economic benefits for the host city.
The events attracts artists, managers, producers, publicists, media, talent buyers and record industry executives from across Canada and several other countries.
The East Coast Music Awards, Festival and Conference is an annual event organized by the ECMA as a critical part of its mission statement.
The ECMA is a not-for-profit organization whose mandate it is to foster, promote and celebrate East Coast music locally and globally.
The ECMA currently has 1,000 members.
