Limited edition Prince Edward Island Olympic Pins have been designed to commemorate the province's involvement with the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
"The pins will be circulated around the Games and will be an opportunity for us to showcase our Island pride and Olympic spirit to the world," Premier Robert Ghiz said Tuesday.
"The Games are an opportunity for Prince Edward Island to reach an international audience and the pins will leave a lasting impression."
In total, three pins have been produced combining the emblems of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games with Prince Edward Island's Coat of Arms.
Prince Edward Island's Coat of Arms was granted Armorial Bearings in 1905 by His Late Majesty King Edward VII and depicts a mature oak tree, originally representing England, overlooking three young saplings used to represent Prince Edward Island's three counties.
In addition to pins heading out to Vancouver, limited edition pins will be drawn for at Olympic Spirit Skates taking place across the province. The skates are free to the public and will include prize draws for the Prince Edward Island Olympic Pins and Vancouver 2010 Red Mittens.
The following is the schedule for the skates:
Saturday, Feb. 6, 1:45-2:45 p.m., Credit Union Place, Summerside;
Sunday, Feb. 14, 12:00-1:40 p.m., Eastern Kings Sportsplex, Souris;
Sunday, Feb. 14, 2:00-3:30 p.m. , Simmons Sports Centre, Charlottetown .
"The skates are a great way to get everyone out to show their support for Canada's Games," explained Premier Ghiz. "We hope that all Islanders will take part in the festivities."

    Canadians in genral, aren't happy about the hordes of Money being Spent on The Olympics.

    The Free skates are a nice idea, especially for the children whose families aren't able to afford taking their little One's to the JackFrost Festval.
    Going to a Skate is a nice way to spend Valentines Day with your 'significant other.' Another nice idea.

    thinks it kinda dumb that they are holding these spirit skates during jackfrost, and on valentines day.
    would of loved to take my kids to the skate, but after paying $24 for tickets to jackfrost we will attending it instead of the skate. my 6year old collects pins and is kinda bummed that he will be missing probably his only opertunity to get these pins

    So how much did these pins cost?

    WE already have a MILLION dollars invested in these games so how many more thousands or hundreds of thousands did we as taxpayers spend so Ghiz and the MLA's can look good giving out these pins.

    Notice they said limited numbers which means only the Prmeir or MLA's will have access to these and only they will decide who gets them.

    Lets see some numbers on how much these pins cost. Plus lets see how much it is costing to send Ghiz and the MLA's to the Games.

    you might also want to check out the homeless and poor on East Hastings to see the other side of a too expensive Olympic gala.
    BC will be paying royally for the Olympics for ions.
    I would rather some PEI money had gone to helpful organizations there than to wasteful spending for Olympics.
    We could still send some money to the Olympics but to promote world charity we could have helped some citizens there that need it.
    And before someone assumes all living on skid row are addicts there are many poor, many mentally ill, and yes there are those addicted too. They may be the forgotten.
