The UPEI men's hockey Panthers lost their first game in regulation in 2013 Friday in Moncton.
The Panthers lost 5-0 to the Blue Eagles to drop to 14-10-2 while Moncton improved to 11-9-6.
The host team scored singles in the first and second periods and added three more, including two shorthanded, in the third.
Guillaume Parenteau, Jean-Marc Leger, Raphael Pouliot, Eric Faille and Alex Emond scored in the win while Francis Rochon had a pair of assists.
Mavric Parks made 35 saves in the loss while Andre-Michel Guay stopped all 40 shots for Moncton.
In Friday’s other AUS hockey games, UNB beat St. Thomas 5-1, St. F.X. downed Acadia 3-2 and Saint Mary’s defeated Dalhousie 6-2.
UPEI and St. F.X. are now tied for fourth, two points up on Moncton.
The Panthers play the top-ranked UNB Varsity Reds tonight at 7 p.m. in Fredericton.
They return home for their final game of the season Friday when they host the St. Thomas Tommies at 7 p.m.
The women’s team is off this week. They host Moncton Saturday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m.
