Wazzup Wazzup will leave from the coveted rail position in Saturday’s $75,000 Sobey’s Gold Cup and Saucer final.
The post positions were drawn Tuesday night in the centerfield of Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park by the eight Gold Cup and Saucer Ambassadors.
Wazzup Wazzup finished fourth in Trial 2 after making a break at the three-quarters.
The six-year-old by The Panderosa is trained by Ontario conditioner Corey Johnson for owner Rolling Hills Racing Stable of Uxbridge, Ont.
Trial 1 winner Aracache Hanover has drawn Post 2 while Trial 2 winner Mickey Hanover will have to make the long journey from Post 8.
Driver Marc Campbell sat behind both $12,500 Gold Cup and Saucer trial winners and said after his Trial 2 victory with Mickey Hanover his preferred spot on the gate is the four-hole, like he had with the Trial 2 winner.
“They are both big horses and it proved tonight the four was a good spot for (Mickey Hanover),” Campbell said in the winner’s circle Monday night. “He shot right out of the gate and it was really good.”
But Campbell cautions Post 1 is not always where you want to be on the Charlottetown starting gate.
“Sometimes you leave the rail here and it is a little tricky,” he said. “I wouldn’t want to see one draw (the rail) and the other draw eight, that would make the tale of the race for sure.”
