Aracache Hanover destroyed the field Saturday night in Sobeyâ€™s Gold Cup and Saucer $12,500 trial 1 at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Marc Campbell was in the bike for the 1:51.4 victory for trainer Ron Burke and owners William Switala and James Martin of Clarence Center, N.Y.
Campbell sent the millionaire pacer from Post 5 to the front before laying down fractions of 27.1, 55.2 and 1:23.1 and drawing away by a 4 1/2-length victory.
Shock It To Em (Walter Cheverie) moved first up at the half but never seriously challenged Aracache Hanover while Bigtown Hero (Gilles Barrieau) used a second over trip to tip three-wide up the backstretch to finish second.
Shock It To Em was third with Island Jet (Robert Shepherd) also earning a spot in next Saturdayâ€™s $75,000 Sobeyâ€™s Gold Cup and Saucer final.
Up The Credit (Ryan Ellis) was fifth with Astor (Jason Hughes) finishing sixth.
Campbell and Burke teamed up to win the 2013 Gold Cup and Saucer final in 1:50.4 with Escape The News.
Three divisions of the second leg of the Spud Island Classic for pacing mares was also featured on the card.
General Luckypercy (Barrieau) won her division in 1:57.1, while Russian Kisses (Steven Shepherd) was victorious in 1:56.3 and For All We Know (Barrieau) was a winner in 1:56.2.
Elm Grove Inarush destroyed the field in the fastest Atlantic Sires Stakes A-division Saturday afternoon at the CDP.
Mark Bradley drove the filly to a 1:55.3 win over Sail Through (Mike Stevenson) and Lovineveryminute (Todd Trites) for owner-trainer Eddy Doucette and co-owners Blaine Thibeau, Gordon MacLeod and Grant Mann, all of Kensington.
The three-year-old pacing filly CDP track record is 1:55.1.
The second $9,500 A-division was won by Saulsbrook Alana in 1:56.2 for driver Campbell, trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford. Absolootly Hot (Kenny Arsenault) was second with Fleurje (Hughes) third.
Bettim Jenny won her division in 1:58.1 for driver Robert Shepherd and trainer Jeff Lilley of Charlottetown, who co-owns with Danny Purcell of Nova Scotia. Pictonian Sareta (Stevenson) was second with Charlottes Style (Arsenault) third.
The $2,500 B Divisions were won by Tobins Beauty in 2:01.3, Babies Gigolo in 2:00, and Emily Annabel Mac in 2:01.3.
The second leg of the Premierâ€™s Pace series headlined the Sunday afternoon program at the CDP.
Ultimate Luck won his $4,000 division in 1:55.2 for driver Terry Gallant, trainer Sifroi Melanson and owner Ultimate Stable of Greater Lakeburn, N.B.
D Gs Camme captured the other split in 1:55.3
for driver Barrieau, trainer Jackie Matheson and
owners Tom Clark, Ron Matheson, and Hal and Quentin Bevan, all of Charlottetown.
