A review of UPEI’s athletic department was filed Tuesday with the university’s vice-president of administration.

Jackie Podger was reviewing the document and no further details were available.

Dave (Hermie) MacNeill conducted the month-long review.

Lyall Huggan, the past president of the basketball teams booster club, called for a review after women’s basketball head coach Greg Gould resigned for professional reasons in early June.

Podger told The Guardian the university was planning a review before Gould’s resignation.

MacNeill coached the UPEI women’s basketball team from 1978 to 1993 and from 1990 to 1991, is a former executive director of Sport P.E.I. and was the chief executive officer of operations for the 2009 Canada Games.

Surely this is all too late, right? A good coach has left with no replacement sought, a department is rumoured to be not playing within the rules (or is making up the rules are it goes; screwing people over). I can't see there being any trust between the coaches, boosters, and athletes with the Athletics Department. For the sake of the student-athletes, I hope I'm wrong, but I see this season being a monumental, embarrassing failure.
