The Island Storm had a big fourth quarter on their way to a 108-89 win over the Moncton Miracles in the opening game of the best-of-five quarter-final series Monday night in Charlottetown.
The Storm outscored the Miracles 30-18 in the final period to pull away in the National Basketball League of Canada playoff game. The Storm will also host Game 2 at Eastlink Centre on Wednesday at 7 p.m., before the series shifts to Moncton on Friday and Sunday, if necessary.
Antonio Ballard, who had 30 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, led the Storm. Nick Okorie scored 18 points to go along with seven assists while Adrian Moss had 16. Shawn Vanzant added 14, and Al Stewart scored 12 after coming back from an injury that kept him out of the Storm lineup since Jan. 17.
Johnny Mayhanne scored 18 for Moncton while Oliver McNally and Trayvon Laython each finished with 14 points.
