SUMMERSIDE — The world famous Harlem Globetrotters are returning to Prince Edward Island.
The Globetrotters will be in Summerside on Friday, March 22 at 7 p.m. and this time the crowd gets to decide the rules of the game.
The 2013 Globetrotters tour has been dubbed the “You Write the Rules” world tour, and involves the crowd voting for what set of crazy rules the players will follow.
Want the Globetrotters to play with two basketballs? Vote for it.
Want to see the referees get a timeout in the penalty box? Vote for it.
The full set of rules and the option to vote are online at www.harlemglobetrotters.com.
While most of the game’s rules will be announced previous to the show, the last quarter’s rules will be voted on by applause at the stadium.
This is something new for the Globetrotters and it’s been well received by fans, said Ruby Ramirez, team spokesperson.
“It’s been awesome. I actually went to the Phoenix game here ... the fans are really really enjoying it and they seem to be really involved with it,” she said.
The last time the Globetrotters were in town they played to a sold-out Credit Union Place, said Bobby Dunn, director of community services with the City of Summerside. He expects nothing less this time around.
“The Globetrotters are a world class event... so we’re very privileged to have them coming back again. It’s a great family event,” said Dunn.
Ticket sales have been brisk, but there’s still a lot of good seats left, he added.
Tickets for the show start at $18 and are already on sale at www.cupevents.ca and www.harlemglobetrotters.com. Information on group and scout tickets can be found on the Globetrotters home page.
