Emily MacEachern finished her university career in style.

The fifth-year UPEI Panther scored 22 points, grabbed five rebounds and rejected two shots as the UPEI defeated the Memorial SeaHawks 76-70 Saturday in St. John’s. She was a 9-for-9 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.

The SeaHawks had clinched the final playoff berth with a win Friday over the Panthers.

UPEI finished the season 6-14 and in sixth place in the eight-team conference.

That would normally be good enough for a playoff spot, but because the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds, who finished last in the conference, are hosting the Atlantic University Sport championship, only the top five teams and the host squad qualify.

On Saturday, the Panthers led by one at the half and trailed by two going to the fourth. They finished the season by outscoring Memorial 24-16 in the fourth.

St. John’s native Amy Gough had 11 points, nine rebounds, six assists and a block for the Panthers. Katelynn Donahoe added eight points, six assists, three steals and two rebounds.

Sam Kavanagh led the SeaHawks with 14 points off the bench.
