Kendrick records six steals in win against Memorial

Deontay (D.J.) Smith had 20 points, eight assists and seven rebounds to lead the UPEI Panthers to a 89-67 victory over Memorial.

The Panthers led 20-14 after the first, outscored their opponents by 10 in the second and cruised to victory.

Joe Kendrick added 19 points, six steals, two assists and two rebounds for UPEI while Mandrez Downey had 16, Lorenzo Parker 13 and Opel Samuel Otieno 10 as the Panthers improved to 12-7.

The Panthers shot 35 per cent from the floor compared to the SeaHawks 42, but the Panthers collected 17 steals and out-rebounded Memorial by 10.

Caleb Gould and Theo Stanoev each scored 17 for Memorial (1-18).

The two teams complete the regular season today in St. John's with a 1 p.m. tip-off.

The Panthers clinched third place with the win and will play the six seed next Friday in the conference championship in Halifax.
