The UPEI Panthers men’s basketball team started Saturday how they finished Friday, picking up their second wins in as many nights.
The Panthers completed the sweep of the St. F.X. X-Men with an 88-78 victory Saturday.
UPEI jumped out to a 31-13 lead after the first quarter. Ironically, the Panthers came from behind Friday night to outscore the X-Men 31-13 in the fourth en route to a 98-91 victory.
Geoff Doane had another big night with 16 points and 16 rebounds.
Deontay (D.J.) Smith filled the stat sheet with 12 points, 13 dimes, seven boards and two steals.
All five Panther starters scored in double digits as Joe Kendrick had 18, Mandrez Downey 16 and Jermaine Duke, playing in his final home game as Panther, had 12.
Duke had five blocks, four steals and four rebounds on the evening.
Jeremy Dunn led X with 27 points and added nine rebounds, two steals and an assist.
Rodrigo Madera added 13 points and 14 boards.
UPEI is 11-7 and two points up on Dalhousie for third place in the Atlantic University Sport men’s basketball standings.
The Panthers finish up the regular season next weekend in St. John’s against Memorial (1-17) with a pair of four-point games.
